CORNWALL, P.E.I. – A playoff on Sunday will determine Prince Edward Island’s provincial curling champs.
The Robyn MacPhee rink from the Charlottetown Curling Complex defeated the Lauren Lenentine squad from the host Cornwall Curling Club 10-7 in Saturday’s B final at the P.E.I. Scotties Tournament of Hearts. MacPhee scored three in the 11th for the win to beat Lenentine, who won the A final Friday in the five-team, modified triple-knockout event.
Lenentine led MacPhee 4-0 after two ends and 6-2 after five before the defending champs stormed back with a deuce in the sixth and singles in the seventh, eighth and ninth ends.
Lenentine will play Veronica Smith today at 2 p.m. with the winner playing MacPhee at 7 p.m. in the C final.
Smith eliminated Lisa Jackson with an 8-5 victory this morning.
Men
John Likely and his crew from Charlottetown and Cornwall defeated Eddie MacKenzie’s Charlottetown rink 10-8 in a see-saw B final of the P.E.I. Tankard.
MacKenzie led 1-0 after the first end before Likely scored three in the second. MacKenzie tied it with a deuce in the third before the teams traded singles and then triples in the next four ends.
MacKenzie counted one in the eighth before Likely ended it with three in the ninth.
MacKenzie, who won Friday’s A final, will meet Tyler Harris today at 2 p.m. The winner will play Likely in tonight’s 7 p.m. C final.
Harris eliminated Philip Gorveatt 7-2 Saturday morning.
Sunday's first playoff games go at 2 p.m. with the last game, if required, set for 7 p.m.
