FREDERICTON – It was a four-point weekend for the Charlottetown Bulk Carriers Pride in the New Brunswick/P.E.I. Major Midget Hockey League.
The Pride swept a pair of road games from the Fredericton Caps at Willie O’Ree Place. After pulling out a 4-3 shootout win on Saturday night, the Pride topped the Caps 5-3 on Sunday afternoon.
The Pride sits in fourth place at 10-11-3 (won-lost-overtime losses) while the last-place Caps fell to 7-18-1.
Flyers in first
Elsewhere, the Moncton Flyers defeated the Northern Moose 6-2 on Saturday night and the Saint John Vitos 3-2 on Sunday afternoon to move into first place. Moncton is 18-6-2 for 38 points, one point ahead of the Kensington Monaghan Farms Wild (18-6-1), who did not play over the weekend.
Kensington’s next action is a make-up game against Moose (7-13-4) in Petit-Rocher on Sunday, Jan. 28.
Pride 5 Caps 3
Luke Garnhum scored a hat trick and assisted on another goal for a four-point afternoon to pace the Pride. Connor McGregor (1-2) and Dylan Matthews netted Charlottetown’s other goals while Kennedy Gallant (2), Gage MacWilliams, Grant MacAdam and Logan Kelly-Murphy assisted.
Dawson Breau (2) and Max Grant replied for Fredericton, which trailed 2-0 after one period and 3-1 at the end of 40 minutes.
Erik MacInnis picked up the goaltending win.
Pride 4 Caps 3 (SO)
Kelly-Murphy and Ben Parent played key roles in the Pride victory.
Kelly-Murphy scored in the fourth round of the shootout while the Caps were unable to solve Parent in their four opportunities.
Shaul Mitton, Nick Reeves and Sam MacNeill scored in regulation time for the Pride. Gallant, McGregor, Noah Griffin and Riley MacDougall earned assists.
Grant (2) and Zach Spencer dented the twine for the Caps.
