SUMMERSIDE – Blake Jurkowski’s hard work on the rugby pitch from the 8-man position has not gone unnoticed.

The Grade 12 student has been named the Greco Pizza/Capt. Sub student-athlete of the month for May at Three Oaks Senior High School in Summerside.
The 18-year-old son of Darlene and John Jurkowski of Bedeque was a key contributor in the Axemen winning the P.E.I. School Athletic Association Senior AAA Boys Rugby League championship at UPEI recently.

“He’s one of the hardest-working and most dedicated players on the Three Oaks AAA rugby team,” said Axemen head coach James Voye. “Blake has a very high work ethic, which is a big reason he leads our team in tackles and is such a defensive presence.”

Voye was also quick to point out that Blake’s contributions were not limited to just the defensive side of the ball.
“Blake has added much more to the team on attack this season,” said Voye. “He was a strong ball carrier, and scored some big trys.”
Blake’s future plans include taking the HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) course at Holland College.
