CHARLOTTETOWN – The P.E.I. Islanders split a doubleheader with the first-place Metro Mudcats in New Brunswick Junior Baseball League action at Memorial Field on Saturday.
The Islanders won Game 1 by an 8-5 score, and the Mudcats took the second contest 5-0.

P.E.I. jumped on Metro ace Dominic Tardif for seven runs in the first inning. Nine straight batters reached base on five hits, two errors, a walk and a hit batsman.
Chasse Gallant, Connor McGregor and Jayden MacLean had run-scoring hits. McGregor finished with three hits and Gallant had two. Ryne MacIsaac, Kyle Pinksen, Jed Noonan and Josh Myers also had singles.

P.E.I. starting pitcher Chandler Laporte was in charge on the mound until tiring in the fifth inning, when the Mudcats closed the gap with five runs. Porter Smith escaped the fifth, and Connor Jones came on to get the last four outs for the save.
Blake Flinn, Declan Buckle, and Kyle Jewell had two hits each for Metro.

Metro starter Nate Ronan was in control throughout, scattering seven hits in tossing a complete-game shutout.
The Mudcats scored twice in the second inning against P.E.I. starter Nolan Hicken, and three more times in the fourth. Myers came out the bullpen to throw three innings while Matt Barlow pitched a scoreless seventh.
Jeremy Steeves and Colin Robichaud each had two hits for Metro.
Johnny Arsenault, Barlow, MacIsaac, Laporte, McGregor, Gallant and Gavin Hickey each had one hit for P.E.I.
The Islanders hit the road this weekend for doubleheaders against the Fredericton Royals on Saturday, and Chatham Ironmen on Sunday.
