Island squads make Atlantic soccer finals in Halifax

P.E.I. also earns three bronze medals during weekend play

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – Prince Edward Island soccer teams captured two silvers, three bronzes and three fourth-place finishes at the Atlantic all-star championships during the weekend.

The silver medals were won the under-15 and under-16 boys’ teams in Halifax.

Prince Edward Island lost in penalty kicks to Newfoundland and Labrador in the under-16 boys’ final. The game was tied 2-2 after regulation. Shaurya Badana and Alec MacDougall scored for P.E.I.

New Brunswick defeated P.E.I. 3-0 in the gold-medal match at the under-15 boys’ competition.

In Charlottetown

Under-13 boys

Newfoundland and Labrador defeated Prince Edward Island in penalty kicks after they played to a 2-2 draw in regulation. Noah Farrell and Quentin Curran scored for the host squad.

Nova Scotia doubled New Brunswick 4-2 in the gold medal game.

Under-14 boys

Nova Scotia beat Prince Edward Island in penalty kicks for bronze after the teams played to a 0-0 draw in regulation.

New Brunswick defeated Newfoundland and Labrador 2-0 in the final.

In St. John’s, N.L.

Under-13 girls

Newfoundland and Labrador defeated P.E.I. 2-0 in the bronze medal game at the under-13 girls’ championship in St. John’s, N.L.

Under-14 girls

The Island squad defeated New Brunswick 1-0 to capture the bronze medal at the under-14 girls’ championship in St. John’s, N.L.

Gracie McQuaid scored the goal in the first half while Lauren Clark registered the shutout.

In Moncton

Under-15 girls

Prince Edward Island’s under-15 girls’ squad defeated Newfoundland and Labrador in penalty kicks to claim the bronze medal in Moncton. The game was tied 1-1 after regulation with Carrie Docherty scored for P.E.I. in the first half.

Under-16 girls

P.E.I. defeated New Brunswick 1-0 to garner bronze in the under-16 girls’ championship in Moncton.

Heidi Lauwerijssen scored in the win while Maci Ross earned the shutout.
