CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. - The Holland College Hurricanes men’s and women’s volleyball teams had solid road results over the weekend as the men defeated the Université de Sainte-Anne Dragons 3-0 in Church Point, N.S., and the women split with Mount Saint Vincent and King’s College in Halifax.
The women dropped the match 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-19) to MSVU despite Megan LeBlanc’s seven kills and six kills each for Brittany States, Lauren Moerike and Sam Gerbig. Gracie Ferguson had 12 assists in the match.
Versus King’s College on Sunday, the ‘Canes earned a 3-0 win (25-13, 25-17, 25-21) on 12 kills by LeBlanc and States, Ferguson’s 27 assists and Dana Trainor’s match-high 12 digs.
The women went to 7-3, good for third in the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association standings. Next up, the squad hosts Dal-AC on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m. in Charlottetown.
On the mens side, Gordon Veitch and Brett Butler both had seven kills to lead the attack while Nicholas Menzies had 14 assists and Nathan Archibald had six.
Butler and Veitch also led the way from the service line recording five and four aces, respectively, with Veitch leading the team in digs with eight and Marcus Lapointe adding six.
Set scores were 25-15, 25-18, 25-20.
The win moves the ‘Canes to 8-1, good for first in the ACAA while the Dragons fell to 0-7.
The ‘Canes return to action Saturday, Jan. 27, playing host to the UNBSJ Seawolves.
