SUMMERSIDE – There is one characteristic the Kensington Monaghan Farms Wild’s coaching staff is looking for from this year’s team hopefuls
“One thing about our organization is we want guys who want to be there,” emphasized head coach Kyle Dunn. “It’s a big commitment to give up your weekends as a high school kid, so we want guys who are going to be committed first and foremost.
“Then you want a work ethic and the skill comes next. If you have the passion and the work ethic and commitment, we can teach the skill. Kids have to want to put the work in to get better.”

Training camp
The New Brunswick/P.E.I. Major Midget Hockey League team will open training camp at Credit Union Place in Summerside on Saturday. Registration is set for 5 p.m., followed by a group meeting at 5:30 p.m., fitness session at 5:45 p.m., and an on-ice session at 7 p.m.
“You are excited to get going, and you are also watching the junior camps to see who is going to make it and who is going to be coming back,” said Dunn. “It’s tough in major midget to pencil guys in because there are always surprises in junior camps, and you could have surprise walk-ons in your own camp as well. . . You just have to focus on the guys who are at camp, and try to pick your best 20 out of that.”
The first round of cuts could be made Wednesday or Thursday, and the team will compete in the league’s annual jamboree in Moncton, N.B., on Sept. 8 and 9. The Wild will return to their home arena, Credit Union Centre in Kensington, the following week. The Wild’s regular-season opener is on the road Sept. 14.
