Wild edges Pride in shootout

CHARLOTTETOWN – Veteran forward Frank Fortin and rookie goaltender Chad Arsenault were the heroes for the Kensington Monaghan Farms Wild.
Fortin scored the only goal of the three-round shootout while Arsenault did not allow a goal as the Wild pulled out a 2-1 road victory over the Charlottetown Bulk Carriers Pride on Friday night.
The Wild, winners of three straight, improved to 6-2-0 (won-lost-overtime losses) in the New Brunswick/P.E.I. Major Midget Hockey League, and the Pride dropped to 3-4-1.
At the Bell Aliant Centre on the UPEI campus, Arsenault and the Pride’s Ben Parent matched each other save for save. Both goaltenders stopped 31 of 32 shots through regulation and overtime.
Sophomore defenceman Ethan Beaulieu, who was set up by Bradley Campbell, gave the Wild a 1-0 advantage at 10:54 of the second period.
It was a short-lived lead as Lucas Parson pulled the Pride even at 15:13. Cole Larkin and Drew Bowman set up the equalizer.
Both P.E.I. teams are back in action on Sunday as the Pride hosts the Moncton Flyers (5-2-1) at 1:45 p.m., and the Wild travels to Bathurst, N.B., to take on the Northern Moose (2-4-1) at 1:30 p.m.
The Pride and Wild will renew acquaintances at Community Gardens in Kensington on Saturday, Oct. 28, in a 7:30 p.m. start.
