BRIDGEWATER, N.S. – The Summerside D. Alex MacDonald Ford Western Capitals are off to a winning start.
The Capitals opened the 2018-19 MHL (Maritime Junior Hockey League) regular season with a 7-2 road victory over the South Shore Lumberjacks before 600 fans at the Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre on Friday night.
The Caps’ top line of captain TJ Shea of Anglo Tignish, Brodie MacArthur of Summerside and Cameron Roberts of Kensington combined for 14 points. Roberts scored four goals and added an assist for five points, Shea had four points on the strength of a goal and three helpers while MacArthur collected five assists.
Brodie MacMillan (1-1) and Kallum Muirhead also scored for the Capitals. Other assists went to Hunter Bradley and Colin Campbell.
Cody Grant and Brandon Stone replied for the Lumberjacks.

The teams were tied 1-1 after the first period, and the Caps took a 4-2 lead into the second intermission. Roberts scored a natural hat trick in the third period to put the game out of reach.
Winning goaltender Dominik Tmej stopped 29 of 31 shots. The Caps tested South Shore netminder MacKenzie James 43 times.
The Capitals went 3-for-7 on the power play while the Lumberjacks were 0-for-5 with the man advantage.
The game’s three stars were:
1. Cameron Roberts (Caps), 2. Brodie MacArthur (Caps), 3. TJ Shea (Capitals).
The Caps continue a season-opening four-game road trip against the Yarmouth Mariners on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
