ABRAM-VILLAGE – Calvin McRae had a goal and three assists to lead the Arsenault’s Fish Mart Western Red Wings to a 5-2 win over the Kent Koyotes on Thursday night.
The interlocking game between the Island Junior Hockey League (IJHL) and New Brunswick Junior Hockey League was played at the Evangeline Recreation Centre.
Jason Gallant, Isaac Knox and Chasse Gallant all had a goal and an assist for the Red Wings, who have won five games in a row and improved their IJHL-leading record to 22-8-2 (won-lost-overtime losses). Connor Morrissey added a single goal while helpers went to Alex Morrissey, Silas Handrahan, Abel Arsenault and Curklan Fraser.
Brandon Coulombe and Fred Landry answered for the Koyotes.
The teams were tied 1-1 after the opening period, and the Red Wings took a 3-2 advantage into the second intermission.
Luke Oliver earned the goaltending win.
The Red Wings will host the Eastern Maniacs (8-21-2) at the Evangeline Recreation Centre on Sunday at 7 p.m. This will be a playoff preview for the IJHL semifinals.
The Red Wings have been dealing with a couple of injuries, and hope to have a few players back in the next week or two.
Bronson Banks will get the nod in goal for the Red Wings.
