Summerside women’s hockey team splits first two games

The Capitals, who are the newest entry in the league, opened the season with a 3-2 win over the Tyne Valley Wrecked Women at the Tyne Valley Community Sports Centre, and lost 7-3 to the Evangeline Global Wines at the Evangeline Recreation Centre.
The Capitals play in Alberton on Sunday at 4:10 p.m., and host their home opener at The Plex in Slemon Park on Monday at 8:15 p.m.

League
This is the seventh year the league has operated. It started in 2010 with three teams, but has now expanded to seven teams.
The teams will play 12 home and 12 away games for a 24-game regular-season schedule.

Haillie Ray Melanson, Tara Gavin and Jillian Johnson scored for the Capitals, who received assists from Lindsay Picketts (2) and Christina Waugh.
Amy MacKendrick and Sarah Maynard replied for Tyne Valley. Ashley Bishop added two assists.

Evangeline 7 Capitals 3
Samantha Ellis scored four goals and added an assist while Holly Bernard netted a brace and collected three helpers to lead Evangeline. Jacinthe Jackson picked up a single goal while Marise Gallant and Nina Arsenault assisted.
Stacy Montgomery (2) and Melanson (1-1) countered for Summerside. Bethany Simpson and Danielle Crosby drew helpers.
