SUMMERSIDE – The Summerside Area Minor Hockey Association (SAMHA) has received a National Hockey League Players Association (NHLPA) Goals & Dreams award of 25 sets of brand new gear.
A media release issued by the SAMHA notes the plan is for a one-day-a-week program that will be led by the Summerside Western Capitals’ junior A hockey team’s staff and players. The release continues to say that, through the Summerside Boys and Girls Club and Generation XX, youth aged 11 to 13 will be identified to take part in the program.
A media conference will be held at Credit Union Place in Summerside on Wednesday at 1 p.m. An NHLPA designate will attend, as well as Los Angeles Kings defenceman Dion Phaneuf, who was instrumental in the SAMHA receiving this award.
Phaneuf, who has a summer home in the Kensington area, will have photos to autograph and a jersey draw will be held.
