Anthony Repaci scored at the 4:44 mark of overtime as the Saint Mary’s Huskies rallied past the UPEI Panthers 4-3 Friday in Atlantic University Sport men’s hockey action at MacLauchlan Arena in Charlottetown.
UPEI had held leads of 2-0 and 3-1 in the game before the Huskies scored two unanswered goals in the third period to send the game to an extra period.
It’s the Panthers’ fourth loss in a row (2-4-1).
Marcus Power got UPEI on the scoresheet at 19:35 of the first period with assists going to RT Rice and Gabe Guertler.
The Panthers would make it 2-0 on a goal by Guertler at 2:32 of the second period with assists going to Rice and Beau McCue.
Saint Mary’s got one back when Steven Shipley scored on the power play at 8:37.
UPEI regained its two-goal lead with Guertler’s second of the game at 16:26 with assists going to Rice and McCue.
In the third period, Bronson Beaton (00:36) and Shipley on the power play (15:29) completed the rally.
Repaci then completed the comeback with an unassisted marker in overtime.
Saint Mary’s outshot UPEI 30-16. On the power play, the Huskies converted on two of their three chances while UPEI went 0-for-3.
Cole Cheveldave stopped 13 shots in net for SMU while Matt Mahalak made 26 saves in net for UPEI.
The Panthers are back in action today when they host Acadia at 7 p.m.
