O’LEARY

The West Prince Senior Hockey League championship series is heading back to Alberton for the fifth and deciding game.

The Alberton Regals staved off elimination for a second night in a row Thursday in a packed O’Leary Community Sports Centre, downing the Maroons 6-3 to tie the series 2-2. They won 9-1 at home Wednesday night.

Start time for the St. Patrick’s Day game at Jacques Cartier Arena is 8:15 pm.

In O’Leary on Thursday, the Regals led 32-0 after one period and added four second-period goals before the Maroons got on board. The score was 6-2 after 40 minutes.

The Maroons cut the Regals’ lead in half five minutes into the third period but a five-minute major for checking from behind with seven minutes remaining all but dashed any hopes of a comeback. The Maroons took another minor and played two players short for two minutes. Despite controlling the puck and several set plays the Regals could not get any more pucks past Maroons starter, Chase Dyment.

Spencer Rennie picked up the goaltending win for the Regals.

Matt LeFurgey paced the Regals with two goals and an assist while single goals were notched by Fidan Feta, Taylor Smith, Kenzie Horne and Jason Smallman. Garrett Lewis (3) Jesse MacIntyre (2) and Alex Wallace added assists.

Nick Reilly, Jordan MacIsaac and Mike Adams replied for the Maroons and Dylan Ellis, Justin MacIsaac, Connor Dyment, Jeff MacIsaac and Wade Sweet had assists.

Although the game was not as penalty-filled as Wednesday’s animosity was evident throughout. The Regals were assessed six minors and athree 10-minute misconducts while the Maroons received five minors, two 10-minute misconducts, a five-minute major and two game misconducts.
