CHARLOTTETOWN – Cody Payne had two goals and three assists to lead the UPEI Panthers to an 8-2 triumph over the Moncton Blue Eagles.

The Atlantic University Sport men’s hockey contest was played at the Bell Aliant Centre on Friday night.

Brent Andrews (2-1), Marcus Power (2), Levi Austin (1-1) and Filip Rydstrom also scored for the Panthers, who improved to 2-1-0.

Kameron Kielly (3), Beau McCue (2), Darcy Ashley (2), Riley Whittingham, Alex McQuaid and Ryan MacKinnon chipped in with assists as UPEI held period leads of 2-0 and 7-2.

Vincent Deslauriers and Joel Blanchard answered for Moncton (0-3-1).

Winning goaltender Matthew Mancina stopped 17 of 19 shots.
