McGregor records five points in Pride win

CHARLOTTETOWN – Connor McGregor netted four goals and assisted on another to lead the Charlottetown Bulk Carriers Pride to a 6-3 win over the Fredericton Caps on Sunday afternoon.

It marked the final regular-season game of the 2017-18 New Brunswick/P.E.I. Major Midget Hockey League. The Pride finished in fourth place at 17-13-5 (won-lost-overtime losses), and the Caps were sixth in the six-team league at 7-26-2.
The Pride is expected to open the best-of-seven provincial major midget hockey championship series against the Kensington Monaghan Farms Wild (6-7-2) in Kensington on Friday night. The winner of this series will represent P.E.I. at the Atlantic major midget hockey championship in Lantz, N.S.
At MacLauchlan Arena, Gage MacWilliams (1-1) and Noah Griffin also scored for Charlottetown. Ed McNeill (3), Drew Bowman (2), Dylan Matthews, Kennedy Gallant and Nick Reeves chipped in with assists.
Ben Lightbody (2) and Ryan Penney countered for the Caps, who led 2-1 after one period and trailed 4-2 following 40 minutes.
Winning goaltender was Ben Parent. Charlottetown outshot Fredericton 28-18.
