McCain Caps' AA Minor Hockey Classic

SUMMERSIDE -- The Summerside Consolidated Credit Union Capitals pulled out a nail-biting decision in the midget championship game of the McCain Caps' AA Minor Hockey Classic on Sunday. Darian Mullins scored the lone goal of the game 23 seconds into the third period and Alex Vaniderstine provided shutout goaltending as the Caps edged the Kennebecasis Valley Hawks 1-0 at Credit Union Place. Dillon Gaudet and Jarvis DesRoche assisted on the game-winning goal.

SUMMERSIDE -- The Summerside Consolidated Credit Union Capitals pulled out a nail-biting decision in the midget championship game of the McCain Caps' AA Minor Hockey Classic on Sunday.
Darian Mullins scored the lone goal of the game 23 seconds into the third period and Alex Vaniderstine provided shutout goaltending as the Caps edged the Kennebecasis Valley Hawks 1-0 at Credit Union Place. Dillon Gaudet and Jarvis DesRoche assisted on the game-winning goal.
Mullins also earned Summerside's game star and the Kennebecasis Valley award went to goaltender Garrett Hampton.
The Capitals advanced to the final with a five-goal outburst in the third period to down Bedford, N.S., 7-1 in Sunday morning's semifinal.
Cameron Ahern, Breaden Brennan and Tyson Phillips all scored twice for the Capitals, who received a single goal from Dillon Gaudet.
Reed Gallant earned the goaltending win and the Capitals held period leads of 2-0 and 2-1.

Following is a look at Sunday's other championship games:

Bantam
TASA 3, Dartmouth 1
Jack Fraughton scored twice and Christin Lane added a single marker as TASA downed Dartmouth.
Josh Worthen netted Dartmouth's lone goal.
TASA held period leads of 1-0 and 2-1.

Peewee
Sherwood 3, Chebucto 2
Tanner McLean's goal at 6:32 of the third period snapped a 2-2 tie and gave Sherwood the championship.
Cameron O'Hanley (1-1) and Dominique Ryan also scored for Sherwood, which received helpers from Taylor Runighan, Michael Evoy and Brayden White.
Jesse Murphy-Hamer and Jeffrey Withers replied for Chebucto.
Sherwood led 1-0 after one period and the teams were tied 2-2 after the second.

Atom
Halifax 5, Dartmouth 2
Ian Drysdale and Sam Allison each scored twice for Halifax while Aaron Kovacs added a single.
Carlin West Newcombe and Benjamin Sheppard answered for Dartmouth.
The teams were tied 1-1 after the first period and Halifax took a 4-2 advantage into the final frame.
