Matrix, Red Devils off to winning starts

P.E.I. Midget AAA Hockey League

The Pownal Red Devils kicked things off on Monday night with an 8-2 triumph over the Summerside Capitals, and the host Mid-Isle Matrix got by the Charlottetown-based Central Attack 3-1 on Tuesday night.
Play resumes on Thursday, when the Alberton-based Western Regals travel to the Cody Banks Arena in Charlottetown to take on the Attack at 8:20 p.m.

Matrix 3 Attack 1
At the APM Centre in Cornwall, Duncan Picketts scored two goals while Ben Peters added a goal and an assist to account for the Matrix scoring. Brett MacDonald (2) and Nick Trainor added assists.
Braden Donnolly netted an unassisted tally for the Attack, who trailed 2-0 after the first period and 3-1 following the second.
Winning goaltender was Jonah Arbing, and Matthew Halliwell was between the pipes for the Attack.

Red Devils 8 Capitals 2
At the Pownal Sports Centre, Nick Steele and Keegan Mitchell each had two goals and a pair of assists for four-point efforts to pace the Red Devils. Grant Koughan (1-2), Dawson Palmer (1-2), Noah Morrison (1-1) and Sam Langille rounded out the scoring while single helpers were credited to Jack Triantafflou, Larkin Kennedy, Lucas Parsons, Sammy Docherty and Alex Doyle.
Parker Gallant (1-1) and Blake Gallant countered for the Capitals. Dexter Stewart and Kalib Snow chipped in with an assist each.
The Red Devils built period leads of 2-0 and 4-1.
Trevor Whalen earned the goaltending win.
