CORNWALL – The Robin's Mid-Isle Matrix is one win away from winning the P.E.I. Midget AAA Hockey League championship.
The Matrix defeated the Pownal Taco Boyz Red Devils 6-2 on Wednesday night to take a commanding 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven championship series. The Matrix will go for the sweep at the Pownal Sports Centre on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
At the APM Centre, the Matrix outshot the Red Devils 56-18, including 20-4 advantages in the first and third periods.
Nick Trainor and Ben Peters each had two goals and two assists while Zac MacKay contributed four helpers to pace the Matrix offensively. Zach Wilson (1-1) and Duncan Picketts rounded out Mid-Isle’s scoring. Callum Pineau added a single assist.
Lucas Parsons and Hunter Pauley-Smith countered for the Red Devils. Noah Morrison, Michael Jenkins, Sammy Docherty and Alex MacEachern chipped in with helpers.
Jonah Arbing made 16 saves in earning the goaltending win. Trevor Whalen finished with 50 stops in the Pownal goal.
