MacKinnon is one of 111 players – 12 goaltenders, 36 defencemen and 63 forwards – competing for a roster spot on three national teams. The Black, Red and White squads  will compete at the 2015 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge from Oct. 30 to Nov. 7 at a yet-to-be-determined host city.

MacKinnon was a member of Team P.E.I. that competed at the 2015 Canada Winter Games in Prince George, B.C., in February. He has also been a member of the Hockey P.E.I. Program of Excellence for the last three seasons.

MacKinnon played major midget hockey for the Notre Dame Hounds in Wilcox, Sask., this past season.

He was recently drafted by the Rimouski Oceanic of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and, along with Jeremy McKenna of Summerside, was one of two territorial selections of the Summerside Western Capitals in the recent MHL (Maritime Junior Hockey League) draft.

The development camp takes place at the Markin MacPhail Centre at WinSport’s Canada Olympic Park in Calgary from July 29 to Aug. 4.
