MacDonald leads Maniacs past Vipers

SOURIS – Damon MacDonald carried the Eastern Maniacs past the Kensington Moase Plumbing and Heating Vipers on Friday night.

Island Junior Hockey League (IJHL)

MacDonald scored a hat trick to lead the Maniacs to a 4-3 come-from-behind win over the Vipers in an Island Junior Hockey League playoff contest. The best-of-seven semifinal series is now tied 1-1, with Game 3 scheduled for Community Gardens in Kensington on Sunday at 7 p.m.
At the Eastern Kings Sportsplex, there was no scoring in the first period, and the teams entered the second intermission tied 2-2.

Easton Smith scored 1:40 into the third period to give the Vipers a 3-2 lead, but MacDonald tied the game at 5:15, and scored the winning goal at 7:10. Shawn Corney netted the other Maniacs’ goal, with assists credited to Cole Jenkins (2), Mark Burke, Tyler Rose, Matt Cox, John Arsenault, Mike MacGregor and Alex Gallant.
James Murphy (1-1) and Jacob Stewart also scored for Kensington, which won Game 1 on home ice 9-0. Ben Keefe, Ryan McKenna, Jordan Mayhew, Riley Gallant and Spencer McAllister were credited with assists.
Cam Duffy registered the goaltending win over Grant Grady.
