CORNWALL, P.E.I. – The Robin’s Mid-Isle Matrix is a win away from advancing to the Prince Edward Island Midget AAA Hockey League final.
The Matrix defeated the Western Regals 4-3 on Tuesday to take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five semifinal. Game 3 goes Thursday at 7:40 p.m. at the APM Centre in Cornwall.
Chandler LaPorte led the Matrix with a goal and two assists in Game 2. Colin Goodwin, Kyler Weeks and Zach Wilson also scored in the win while Lucas Buch, Nick Trainor, Duncan Picketts, Ben Peters and Zac MacKay were each credited with a helper.
Tristan Cahill had two goals for the Regals while Sterling MacKendrick had a goal and an assist. Kalim DesRoches, Chandler DesRoches and James Doyle each added an assist.
Jonah Arbing earned the win while Colin Gaudette was tagged with the loss.
The Matrix held 2-1 and 3-2 period leads.
Mid-Isle was 1-for-1 on the power play while Western was 0-for-2.
Pownal leads Kings County 1-0 in the other semifinal with Game 2 going Friday at 8 p.m. in Souris.
