Kinkora boys 2-0 in high school hockey tournament

KENSINGTON – The Kinkora Blazers improved to 2-0 (won-lost) in the Kensington Intermediate-Senior High (KISH) school hockey tournament on Tuesday night.

Alexis Mulligan of the Kishora team looks to get to a loose puck along the end boards before Montague’s Alyta Vandenbroek during a game in the Kensington Intermediate-Senior High School hockey tournament at Community Gardens earlier this week. The Kishora team is comprised of players from Kensington and Kinkora.

The Blazers defeated the Three Oaks Axemen 3-1 while the Bluefield Bobcats also improved to 2-0 with a 2-0 shutout over the Colonel Gray Colonels.

In other boys’ action, Kensington edged Westisle 6-5, and the result of the Souris-vs.-Montague game is unavailable.

In girls’ play, Bluefield won its second straight with a 5-0 decision over Kishora, a combined team from Kensington and Kinkora. There was no result available of the girls’ game between Three Oaks and Montague.

Boys

Kinkora 3 Three Oaks 1

At The Plex in Slemon Park, CJ McCardle, Morgan Darbyson and Tyson Beckingham provided goals for the Blazers. Garrett Murray and Nick VanderVelden set up the goals.

Jed Noonan, assisted by Tristan Gallant and Dawson McCormack, was credited with the lone goal for the Axemen (1-1).

 

Kensington 6 Westisle 5

At Community Gardens in Kensington, Jordan Montgomery scored twice to lead the hometown Torchmen (1-1), who received single goals from Nick Mann (1-1), Matt Read, Rhys Caseley and Rylan MacLellan. Andrew Sharpe and Josh Cormier added assists.

Brydon Smith scored a hat trick while Jaden Arthur and Connor Morrissey chipped in with singles for Westisle (0-2). Morgan Grigg and Keaton Horne drew single assists.

 

Bluefield 2 Colonel Gray 0

At MacLauchlan Arena in Charlottetown, Connor Andrews and Jake Sark dented the twine for Bluefield. Ben Lank added an assist.

Gray fell to 1-1.

 

Girls

Bluefield 5 Kishora 0

At Community Gardens, Marilyn Fortin scored twice and Emma MacPhail had a goal and an assist to lead the Bobcats. Brooke MacKenzie and MJ Fortin also scored while Laura Whitty and Madison Cormier collected helpers.

Kishora dropped to 0-2.
