SAN JOSE, CALIF. – Charlottetown native Josh Currie dropped a hat trick on the San Jose Barracuda and paced the Bakersfield Condors to a 4-3 shootout victory in American Hockey League action Thursday in San Jose, Calif.

Currie, who holds the P.E.I. Rocket (now the Charlottetown Islanders) single season record for hat tricks with five, scored in the second period to tie the game 1-1, then twice in the third to make things 3-2.

The Condors surrendered the game-tying goal with eight seconds left in the match. Ty Rattie got the shootout winner.

The former Rocket captain was named the game’s first star after his third career hat trick. It was Currie’s third multiple-point game this season and sixth point in four games versus San Jose.

The 25-year-old centre now has eight goals and 15 points in 26 games in his third season with Bakersfield, which sits last in the Pacific Division at 11-12-3 and 25th overall.

San Jose’s roster includes former Rocket and Islanders goalie Antoine Bibeau, who backed up starter Troy Grosenick in the game.
