Islanders to support Humboldt Broncos

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – The Charlottetown Islanders will pay tribute to the Humboldt Broncos tonight.
Prior to the start of Game 3 at the Eastlink Centre, the Islanders and Halifax Mooseheads will pay their respects to those affected by the tragedy that took place in Saskatchewan on Friday night. Fifteen members of the Broncos were killed and 14 injured in a bus crash while travelling to a playoff game.
Both teams as well as on-ice officials will meet at centre ice for a special ceremony, forming a circle in a display of solidarity before observing a moment of silence.
All players and officials will be wearing Humboldt Broncos tribute decals on their helmets, with the same decal being made available by donation to the general public. One hundred per cent of the donations will go to the Broncos.
A fundraising puck toss will also be held during the second intermission and the Charlottetown Islanders will be making a $2,500 donation.
“We all grieve together,” Islanders president of operations Craig Foster said Monday. “The entire hockey world, and every community across Canada, is thinking about and praying for those involved in this tragedy. Islanders are very caring and (P.E.I. is a) giving community and we anticipate a large turnout tomorrow night to lend our support in this difficult time.”
The Islanders organization is sending its best wishes and deepest condolences to the players, staff, families, friends and Humboldt community who have been affected by this tragic event.
