CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – Kevin Mandolese stopped 30 shots to backstop the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles to a 2-1 victory over the Charlottetown Islanders Saturday in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.

Matthew Welsh stopped 27 shots in the loss.

Egor Sokolov and Phelix Martineau scored in the win with assists going to Isiah Campbell, Mathias Laferriere, Ross MacDougall and Leon Gawanke.

Thomas Casey from Liam Peyton and Hunter Drew responded for the host Islanders before 2,787 fans at the Eastlink Centre.

All the scoring occurred in the first period.

Cape Breton improved to 21-21-5-3 while Charlottetown is 27-17-3-0.

Islanders equipment manager Andrew (Spider) MacNeill was recognized before the game for working his 1,000th game with the team.
