Islanders lose in overtime to Cape Breton Screaming Eagles

SYDNEY, N.S. – Ross MacDougall set up three goals including the overtime winner to pace the host Cape Breton Screaming Eagles to a 4-3 victory over the Charlottetown Islanders Friday in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League play.

The Islanders scored twice in the final nine minutes of regulation to force overtime.

Peyton Hoyt, with his second of the game, scored 3:24 into overtime while Isiah Campbell and Mathias Laferriere scored in regulation. Laferriere, Campbell, Jordan Ty Fournier and Sacha Roy each had an assist.

Sam King, Daniel Hardie and Pascal Aquin scored in regulation for the Islanders with Olivier Desjardins, Nikita Alexandrov, Thomas Casey and Saku Vesterinen drawing assists.

Kevin Mandolese made 44 saves, including 24 in the second period, for the win while Matthew Welsh stopped 24 shots in the loss.

Cape Breton, which held 2-0 and 2-1 period leads, went 2-for-5 on the power play while Charlottetown was 0-for-6.

The Screaming Eagles (30-27-6-1) and Islanders (34-23-7-0) play again Saturday at 7 p.m.
