Islanders defeat Wildcats in QMJHL pre-season action

MONCTON, N.B. – Cole Edwards scored the winner with five seconds left to give the Charlottetown Islanders a 2-1 win over the Moncton Wildcats Tuesday in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League pre-season play.

Nathaniel Doyon from Patrick LeBlanc gave the Isles a 1-0 lead with 19 seconds remaining in the first period.

Ozzie King from Josh Crooks and Sam Dow tied it eight minutes into the second period.

Dakota Lund-Cornish stopped all seven shots he faced in 28:45 of action for the victory. Starter Nathan Boyd stopped seven of eight shots he saw in 31:15.

The Islanders outshot the host Wildcats 13-2 in the first and 17-4 in the third period. Each team had nine shots in the second period.

The Islanders improved to 1-0-1-0 during the pre-season. They travel to Sydney, N.S., Friday to play the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles at 7 p.m. before hosting them Sunday at 4 p.m. at the APM Centre in Cornwall.
