CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – The UPEI Panthers women's hockey squad took to the ice for the first time Monday as they prepare for an important 2018-19 hockey season.

The Panthers are the host team for the U Sports national championship in 2019 and 2020.

There are 34 women fighting for one of the 24 or 25 roster spots this season. The Panthers begin exhibition play Friday, Sept. 14, at St. Thomas University in Fredericton, N.B., before hosting the Saint Mary’s Huskies Sunday, Sept. 16, at 2 p.m. UPEI opens the regular season on Friday, Oct. 12, by hosting the St. Thomas Tommies at 7 p.m.
