Home teams batted 2-for-3 in Sunday’s action in the Island Junior Hockey League led by the Kensington Moase Plumbing and Heating Vipers doubling the A&S Scrap Metal Metros 8-4 and Eastern Maniacs getting past the Cap-Pele Predators 3-2.
That game and the lone 7-2 road win by the Moncton Vito’s over the Arsenault’s Fish Mart Western Red Wings were interlocking game with the New Brunswick Junior Hockey League.
Vipers 8, Metros 4
Kensington scored five goals in the second frame and salted away the win in Kensington.
Easton Smith, Spencer Sherren, Cale Pierce, Riley Gallant (1-3) and Kyle McGuigan scored in the decisive frame. Kyle Pinksen, Logan Vandervelden, Nathan Sanderson (1-3) and Smith had the other Vipers scores.
Drew Grady and Jacob Stewart each had two assists.
Kensington outshot the Metros 38-36.
Tanner Lund (1-2), Cale Pierce (1-1), Barrngton Duffy (1-1) and Pat McGuigan netted the Metros markers, while Logan Toole chipped in two assists.
Caelan Ferguson earned the goaltending win over Alex Kelly.
Vito’s 7, Western 2
Seven unanswered goals vaulted the Vito’s to the win in Evangeline.
Alex Morrissey and Tristan Gallant gave the Wings a 2-0 first period edge, then Remi Theriault (2-2), Samuel Savoie, Pat Landry (2-1) Alexandre Gallant (1-1) and Pascal Dupuis (1-1) scored over the two and a half periods.
Kensington outshot Moncton 50-45. Neither team scored in on the power play in a combined seven chances.
Julien Landry earned the win in goal over Bronson Banks.
Maniacs 3, Predators 2
Blake Jamieson’s second period score made the difference as the Maniacs edged out the win in Souris.
Spencer Compton and Eddie Jenkins (1-1) gave the Maniacs a 2-0 first-period lead and Jamieson (1-1) made it 3-0 until Cap-Pele’s Marc Doiron and Connor Hayes made it close with third-period goals. But Cap-Pele couldn’t net the equalizer.
The teams tied 30-30 in shots. Cap-Pele had the lone power-play goal.
Cam Duffy earned the win over Justin Mitton.
