Dobson plays key role in Canada's under-18 team winning gold

BRECLAV, Czech Republic – Defenceman Noah Dobson is returning home with a gold medal.

Noah Dobson

The 17-year-old son of Andrew and Jenny Dobson of Summerside earned two assists in Canada’s 4-1 victory over the Czech Republic in the gold-medal game of the 2017 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup under-18 hockey tournament on Saturday.
Dobson and Jack McBain set up Joe Veleno’s goal at 2:19 of the second period, which gave Canada a 2-0 advantage.
Then, with just 31 seconds remaining in the second period, Dobson and Akil Thomas drew assists on an important goal by Kevin Bahl. That tally sent the Canadians into the second intermission ahead 3-1, and McBain added an insurance marker at 7:53 of the third period.
Team Canada goaltender Olivier Rodrigue turned aside 18 of 19 shots.

Overall record
Overall, Canada completed play at 4-1 (won-lost), with their lone setback a shootout decision to Russia in the tournament opener. Dobson, who played in the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge for Canada Red last season, registered three assists in the five games.

Next up for Dobson, a product of the Summerside Area Minor Hockey Association, is training camp for his sophomore season in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League with the Acadie-Bathurst Titan.
Dobson is eligible for the 2018 National Hockey League Entry Draft.
