Summerside Western Capitals head coach Billy McGuigan is pleased to launch the promotion Billy’s Battalion for this season’s home games.

Capitals head coach Billy McGuigan has partnered with Marc Morrison of Century 21 to form Billy’s Battalion.

“Summerside has been great to myself and my family,” said McGuigan, who resides in the Prince County city with his wife and three young children. “I knew I wanted to come up with a way to help out other families and children in Summerside.

“When I spoke to Marc Morrison of Century 21 on the idea, he was on board from Day 1.”

McGuigan and Morrison are both correctional officers in Summerside.

Every home game

For every home game, 12 tickets will be donated to families and children who may not have had the opportunity to take in a Caps’ game previously. The families and children will be honoured during the MHL (Maritime Junior Hockey League) contest, and will sit in a special section called Billy’s Batallion.

The idea follows suit with the “Caps Army” theme the organization has come up with for its 35th anniversary season.

“I am thrilled to team up with Billy and the Summerside Western Capitals to help get families to games that may not have gotten to (in the past),” said Morrison. “Growing up in Summerside as a youth, I always looked forward to going to games, and now giving children and families the same opportunity is a great feeling.”

McGuigan, who is in his fourth season as head coach of the Caps, felt this promotion “was a great way to give back” to a community that has supported him during his four years as Capitals head coach.

Home opener

The Capitals’ regular-season home opener is against the Pictou County Weeks Crushers at Eastlink Arena on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Season tickets are still on sale, and can be purchased by calling (902)-436-4009, or by stopping into the Caps’ office located inside Credit Union Place’s lobby.
