When the MHL (Maritime Junior Hockey League) draft concluded on Saturday afternoon, the Caps had taken five Prince County players.

The Caps, who previously announced forward Isaac Knox of Skinners Pond and defenceman Clark Webster of Kelvin Grove as territorial picks, took goaltender Luke Oliver of Elmsdale, defenceman Jacob Arsenault of Richmond and forward Zach Thususka of Summerside.

“We feel that all of them will be able to play with us at some point,” said Caps general manager Pat McIver. “A lot of them (Knox, Webster, Oliver and Thususka) have played with the (Kensington) Wild, and they had a tremendous season last year and developed into winners. We are extremely pleased to be able to get the local guys.”

The Caps used their first pick to take Notre Dame Hounds forward Thomas Casey of Charlottetown in Round 3.

Overall

Overall, the draft consisted of eight rounds, plus two territorial picks. The Caps had 11 picks, which included selecting six Islanders, six forwards, three defencemen and two goaltenders.

“A lot of these kids are going to go to major junior camps, and you do not know how that is going to unfold,” said McIver. “Then some guys will get pressure to stay in midget.

“There is always that risk, but we feel we have gotten quite a few guys who are excited to come to Summerside and try and make our team next year.”
