GATINEAU, QUE. – The host Gatineau Olympiques scored on three of their first seven shots in defeating the Charlottetown Islanders 7-3 Wednesday in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.
Former Isles forward Shawn Boudrias scored three times and helped set up another in the win. Darien Kielb, Dawson Theede, Alexandre Landreville and Alec Malo also scored. Theede had three assists, Landreville, Metis Roelens and Gabriel Bilodeau each had two while singles went to Giordano Finoro, Olivier Plourde and Anthony Beauchamp.
Keith Getson on the power play, Brett Budgell and Derek Gentile scored for Charlottetown. Nikita Alexandrov had two assists while singles went to Pierre-Olivier Joseph, Cam Askew and Gentile.
Creed Jones made 32 saves for the win while Matthew Welsh allowed three goals on seven shots in 15:30 before being pulled. Dakota Lund-Cornish stopped 16 of the 20 shots he faced in relief.
Gatineau, which held 4-0 and 5-1 period leads, improved to 28-20-3-3 while the Islanders are 29-21-4-0.
Charlottetown now heads north for games Friday at Rouyn-Noranda and Saturday at Val-d’Or.
