CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – Charlottetown Islanders overage forward Pascal Aquin is the Ultramar Quebec Major Junior Hockey League player of the week.
The Le Gardeur, Que., native had six goals and an assist last week, helping the Isles first reach the second round of the playoffs and then take a 2-0 lead in their series with the Halifax Mooseheads.
Aquin scored four goals in April 3’s 8-3 victory over the Quebec Remparts in Game 7. He set new personal bests for goals and points in a game in the process.
He scored the game-winner in overtime in Game 1 with the Mooseheads. He had a goal and an assist the next day in Charlottetown’s 7-4 win.
The 20-year-old forward is tied for the league’s goal-scoring lead with linemate Keith Getson with eight goals.
The finalists for the award were Aquin’s teammate, goalie Matthew Welsh, and their former teammate Mitchell Balmas, an Acadie-Bathurst forward and Sydney, N.S., native.
