McDougall looking to LPGA member to help grow family golf

Prince Edward Island’s best-known golfer is now an ambassador for the Mill River Golf Course.

Lorie Kane, who will be heading off to tour events in Australia later this month was introduced as the Mill River ambassador on Monday.

“I’ve been wanting to find something for me to be able to attach myself to at home,” Kane said after Mill River Golf Course owner, Don McDougall introduced the course’s ambassador.

“She will be a consultant to us on all aspects of golf operations, playability of the golf course, the development of events that are appropriate for the development of the course and instruction programs," McDougall said of the role the LPGA member will play. "All of it focused on causing Mill River to be seen to be the place for family golf in P.E.I.”

Kane said she shares McDougall’s vision and insisted being known for family golf does not take away from Mill River’s reputation as a challenging championship course.

“It’s my hope that I can help us create an environment to bring more people to the game, more importantly, bring more people to this side of the Island and experience western hospitality, because I know how great it is, and I know how great it’s going to be once this building is finished,” Kane commented.

Both Kane and McDougall said the resort's other amenities – tennis, volleyball, pickleball, squash, aquaplex and hiding trails – are all part of the lure that can help the course reach its objective.

Monday’s news conference was almost a year to the day since, McDougall was announced as the new owner of the Mill River property.
Marketing and events coordinator for Mill River, Geoffrey Irving said there has not been a day in the past year that improvements haven’t been made to the property, and McDougall said it’s looking like the current round of renovations, which includes installation of an elevated and renovations to the lobby, lounge and restaurant, will be completed by March.
