SUMMERSIDE – A large number of Prince Edward Islanders will be following the National Hockey League awards in Las Vegas on Wednesday night.

That’s because Summerside native Gerard (Turk) Gallant is one of three finalists for the Jack Adams Award as coach of the year.
Gallant guided the Vegas Golden Knights to a record-setting 51-24-7 (won-lost-overtime losses) regular season, the best-ever record by an expansion team. That was good enough for a first-place finish in the Pacific Division.
In the playoffs, the Golden Knights posted a 13-7 record en route to advancing to the Stanley Cup Final, where they lost in five games to the Washington Capitals.
Bruce Cassidy of the Boston Bruins (50-20-12) and Jared Bednar (43-30-9) are also nominated for the coach-of-the-year award.
The awards will be televised in Canada on Sportsnet at 9 p.m., Atlantic Time.
