ELMSALE – Rugby standoff Martina Gallant is Westisle Composite High School’s Greco Pizza/Capt. Sub student-athlete of the month for May.
The 18-year-old daughter of Jackie Doucette and Kevin Blanchard of Greenmount is regarded as the team leader of the back field. Coach Dwayne Gilks describes Gallant, who also played soccer and basketball at Westisle in her senior year, as a great athlete who always works hard and is a tough competitor.
Martina has played high school basketball and soccer since Grade 10, and rugby in Grades 10 and 12.
A student council volunteer, Gallant plans to study sciences at St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, N.S.
