ABRAM-VILLAGE – Renée Gallant, Frederick Morency and Tianna Gallant have been recognized for outstanding contributions during the 2017-18 year at Evangeline School.

Renée Gallant and Morency were named the intermediate students of the year. Meanwhile, Morency and Tianna Gallant received awards as intermediate athletes of the year. The presentations took place during the school’s annual Awards Gala recently. All three are in Grade 9.
Morency, who was described by Evangeline School principal Paulette LeBlanc as a “very dynamic and intelligent student who excels in all his classes,” competed in five P.E.I. School Athletic Association sports – soccer, badminton, track and field, cross-country and flag football.
The 14-year-old son of Eric and Dominique Morency of Mont-Carmel also played with the O’Leary-based Prince County Warriors of the P.E.I. Major Bantam AAA Hockey League last season.

“His ability to read the game, and work with others is remarkable,” said Evangeline School athletic director Jason Arsenault. “His ability to keep his emotions under control during stressful situations, and to think proactively, make of him a competitor you do not want to underestimate.”

Competed in three sports
Renée, who competed in badminton, volleyball and track and field, is the 15-year-old daughter of Jean-Paul and Kathy Gallant of Cape Egmont.

“Devoted, organized and studious,” was how LeBlanc described Renée. “(She is) very generous, and (is) appreciated by her peers.”

Along with her involvements in athletics, LeBlanc noted Renée is also a member of the student council.
Tianna Gallant represented the Coyotes in four school sports – soccer, flag football, track and field and badminton. Outside of school, Tianna played the 2017-18 season with the Western Wind of the P.E.I. Midget AAA Female Hockey League.

“She has no fear of competition,” said Arsenault in introducing Tianna. “She has an obvious passion for sports. . . Whether it be badminton, track and field, soccer, flag football, or hockey, she'll be at the top of her game every time.”

Tianna is the 14-year-old daughter of Dion and Vera Gallant of Abram-Village.
