SUMMERSIDE – It’s playoff time in the Papa John’s P.E.I. Bantam Tackle Football League.
The Summerside Waterwise Spartans will begin a tough road to the Ed Hilton Bowl on Friday. The Spartans will host the Charlottetown Privateers at Eric Johnston Field in a contest at 6 p.m.
The first-place Cornwall Timberwolves (5-1) will take on the fourth-place Kings County Steelers (0-6), who play out of Rollo Bay, in the other semifinal on Sunday.
The Spartans finished the regular season with a record of 4-2 (won-lost). The Privateers were 3-3, but come into the playoffs with confidence and momentum after beating the Timberwolves 38-36 in their final regular-season game.
The Spartans defeated the Privateers in both head-to-head matchups in the regular season. The scores were 20-0 and 24-6, but both games were close going into the fourth quarter. This semifinal matchup is also expected to be decided again late in the game.
Summerside will need to protect the football as they have had too many turnovers this season. When two teams are evenly matched like these two rivals, the turnover battle could decide this game and determine who will move on to next weekend's championship game.

Bowl games
Summerside is hosting both the Ed Hilton Bowl and Potato Bowl at Eric Johnston Field on Saturday, Nov. 4. The bantam final is scheduled to start at noon, followed by the varsity championship game between the first-place Summerside Cooke Insurance Clippers and the winner of this week’s semifinal between the Cornwall Timberwolves and Souris Wildcats at 2:30 p.m.
