The Timberwolves will host the defending Hilton Bowl-champion Summerside Spartans in bantam action, and the Wolves will entertain the Summerside Cooke Insurance Clippers in a varsity game.
The defending varsity champions, Souris Wildcats, will open the following weekend at home against the Amherst Cumberland team. The Wildcats are coming off their sixth straight league title.
Added fifth teams
Both leagues have added a fifth team this coming fall. The Amherst Cumberland squad joins the varsity league, which also includes the Timberwolves, Clippers, Wildcats and Charlottetown Privateers.
In the bantam league, Summerside, Cornwall, Amherst and Charlottetown welcome a Kings County team that features players from the Montague and Souris areas.
“It is great seeing Kings County with a bantam team back,” said Football P.E.I. president Shaun Matheson. “We know there is great football interest in those areas.”
The bantam league, which features players aged 12 to 14, now features eight-man football while the varsity age level is 15 to 18.
Schedules
Each league will play six regular-season games, with the championship games scheduled for the Terry Fox Complex in Cornwall on Nov. 8.
