Clippers advance to Potato Bowl

SUMMERSIDE – The Summerside Cooke Insurance Clippers are one win away from repeating as Potato Bowl champions.

Summerside Cooke Insurance Clippers linebacker John Rose, 44, tackles Isaac Campbell of the Charlottetown Privateers during third-quarter action on Friday night. The Clippers defeated the Privateers 56-0 in a Papa John’s P.E.I. Varsity Tackle Football League semifinal game at Eric Johnston Field in Summerside.

The Clippers romped to a 56-0 whitewashing of the short-staffed Charlottetown Privateers on Friday night in one of two semifinal games in the Papa John’s P.E.I. Varsity Tackle Football League this weekend.

The Clippers will face the winner of the Souris Wildcats-Cornwall Timberwolves’ semifinal in the league championship game at UPEI on Friday, Nov. 4, at 8 p.m.

“We need a real good week of practice to be ready for the winner of the Souris-Cornwall game,” noted Clippers head coach John Turner.

 

In control

At Eric Johnston Field, the Clippers were in control throughout the game, and built a 42-0 lead at halftime.

Cole Adams, Brandon Thomas, Caleb Dawson, Parker Cameron, Spencer Haakman and Jordan Arsenault scored touchdowns on the ground for the Clippers. Quarterback Camren Gavin connected with Parker Cameron and Cameron Paynter for major scores on passing plays.

 

Spartans

The Summerside Waterwise Spartans were awarded a bye to the Papa John’s P.E.I. Bantam Tackle Football League’s Hilton Bowl, also at UPEI on Nov. 4 at 6 p.m.

The Spartans will face the winner of the Cornwall-Kings County semifinal game.
