SUMMERSIDE – The East Wiltshire Warriors are the 2017 P.E.I. School Athletic Association Intermediate AA Soccer League champions.
The Warriors received goals from three different players en route to a 3-0 victory over the Birchwood Cobras at Eric Johnston Field on Thursday afternoon.
Carley Thompson scored in the first half to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead at the break. Jaden Grant and Emma MacIntyre added second-half insurance markers, and Emma Stevenson registered the clean sheet.
The Stonepark Tigers scored a single goal in each half in a 2-0 win over the Queen Charlotte Coyotes in the boys’ gold-medal match, also played at Eric Johnston Field.
Matthew McCabe and Patrick Muise provided Stonepark’s offence while Nolan Berry earned the shutout.
Third-place games
In the bronze-medal games, the M.E. Callaghan boys outlasted Hernewood 4-3 at the Summerside Intermediate School pitch, and Stonepark edged Summerside Intermediate School 1-0 in girls’ play at Eric Johnston Field.
Chandler DesRoche (2), Aiden Gaudet and Ty Gallant scored for M.E. Callaghan, which overcame a 1-0 halftime deficit.
Noah Cormier, Josh Clements and Joey Gallant countered for Hernewood.
Winning keeper was Edmond Perry.
Ella David’s first-half goal stood up as the winner for Stonepark against Summerside Intermediate.
Jaelyn Power earned the shutout.
