Dalton receives award

SHAWINIGAN, Que. – The Alex MacFadyen rink from the Silver Fox in Summerside completed play in the 2018 New Holland Canadian junior curling championships on a winning note.
MacFadyen, third stone James Dalton, second stone Leslie Noye and lead Parker MacFadyen outlasted New Brunswick’s Liam Marin 12-9 in a seeding round game on Friday afternoon.
Dalton was named one of the recipients of the Performance Brooms Fair Play Awards as selected by the officials.
The Dave MacFadyen-coached MacFadyen rink completed play with an overall record of 4-5 (won-lost).
Two big ends proved to be key for MacFadyen against New Brunswick. The P.E.I. representative scored five in the third end to open up a 7-1 lead, and scored four in the seventh end for an 11-6 advantage.
New Brunswick also finished with a record of 4-5.

Women
In women’s play, the Lauren Lenentine rink from the Cornwall Curling Club gave up a pair of three-enders in a 7-1 loss to Quebec’s Laurie St-Georges (8-2).
After going 5-1 in round-robin play, Team Lenentine qualified to play in the championship round.
Lenentine, third stone Kristie Rogers, second stone Breanne Burgoyne and lead Rachel O’Connor completed play with an overall mark of 5-5. Pat Quilty coaches the rink.
