Stratton/Craswell, Clarke/Stavert look to retain stick curling titles

CORNWALL – Last year’s winners at the Ferguson-Logan Montague Funeral Home provincial stick curling championships are aiming to repeat when the event begins today at the Cornwall Curling Club.

Sterling Stratton and Barry Craswell are the open division champs, while Gloria Clarke and Ruth Stavert won the women’s crown last year. Both teams are from the Cornwall club.

The championship for two-person teams feature open (any combination male and female) and women’s divisions runs until Thursday. There are 14 open division teams and three women’s squads.

The top four open division and the top two women’s division teams advance to the Maritime stick curling championships March 14-16 in Moncton, N.B.

The winning and runner-up in the open division teams are also invited to the Canadian Open stick curling championship March 23-26 in New Glasgow, N.S.
