Gorveatt rink wins Island Petroleum cashspiel

Twelve teams participated

SUMMERSIDE

Phil Gorveatt and his Charlottetown rink of Kevin Champion, Mike Dillon and Mark Victor claimed the top prize of $1,000 in the Island Petroleum cashspiel last weekend at the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club.

Gorveatt won out over 11 other teams in the cashspiel, taking the championship final 7-3 Sunday afternoon over Jamie Newson. Newson and his Silver Fox team of Corey Miller, Pat Ramsay and Terry Arsenault shared a $600 prize.

The losing teams from the Sunday morning semi-finals against Gorveatt and Newson each received $300. They are the Silver Fox teams of Ted MacFadyen, Lou Nowlan, Kevin Matheson and Alan Montgomery, and Tim Hockin, Darren Higgins, Mie Spencer and Jonathan Greenan.

The Darryl MacDonald rink of Fred Fraser, John Ellsworth and Glen Betts from the Western Community Curling Club took home $250 for winning the consolation division.
