CORNWALL, P.E.I. – In a re-match of last year’s Football P.E.I. varsity championship game, the three-time defending champion Summerside Clippers travel to Cornwall tonight to take on the upstart Timberwolves.
Kick-off is 8 p.m. at Terry Fox Sports Complex.
The Clippers, noted for their high-octane offence, will be boasting a new look this year as a hard-hitting and fast defensive team. Always fundamentally sound, the Clippers will look to grind out games this year after graduating a number of veterans last season.
The Wolves will be showcasing their young, but experienced players under new head coach Mark Green. Cornwall’s bantam championship team of a year ago graduated a number of players to this year’s roster, and the Wolves are eager to showcase their speed and athleticism.
On Sunday, the hard-nosed Souris Wildcats host the rejuvenated Charlottetown Privateers. Game time is 3 p.m. in Rollo Bay.
Always a perennial contender, Souris will bring its smash-mouth and hard-hitting brand of hospitality to the field. Coach Shawn Fraser, a veteran of championship Wildcats teams, carries on the legacy from previous coaches Ross Young and Steve MacPhee.
Charlottetown has a new and experienced football coach to lead its re-entry into the varsity league. Scott MacEwen, a veteran of NCAA and U Sports football teams, takes over the reins and leads a very talented Privateers squad into Rollo Bay.

As Cornwall graduated a number of key players to the varsity league, coach Ryan Dempsey will look to his returning players from last year’s squad to lead a young and improving Wolves team. The Spartans, always a perennial contender, will be looking to build upon last weekend’s victory as they set their sights on re-taking the Ed Hilton Cup.
On Sunday, the title-challenger Privateers visit the KC Steelers in Rollo Bay. Kickoff is at 1 p.m.
The Privateers boast a fast and athletic squad that looks to shoot the lights out in every game. The Steelers, fresh off a tremendous recruiting class, will look to take advantage of their youth and speed to put points up on the board for their hometown fans.
