MONCTON, N.B. – Dylan Blenkhorn of Truro, N.S., recorded his first victory of 2018 by winning the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour’s Lucas Oil 150 on Saturday evening at Petty International Raceway.
Blenkhorn held off Cole Butcher of Porter’s Lake, N.S., on numerous restarts, including the final one with seven laps remaining. Craig Slaunwhite of Terence Bay, N.S., finished third on the evening after fending off late-race challenges from fourth-place finisher Dylan Gosbee of Cornwall and defending Series champion Shawn Turple of Enfield, N.S.
Heat races
Four Atlantic Tiltload heat races kicked off the night. Darren MacKinnon of Charlottetown, Kent Vincent of Westmoreland, Cory Hall of Jolicure, N.B., and Blenkhorn all picked up wins in the 10-lap qualifying heats.
Other P.E.I. drivers in the race were MacKinnon (sixth), Charlottetown’s Robbie MacEwen (10th), Brudenell’s Jonathan Hicken (15th), Oyster Bed Bridge’s Allison McKinnon (18th), Albany’s Terry Dougay (20th), Brackley Beach’s Chris Hughes (22nd), Springvale’s Greg Proude (24th), Clyde River’s Nevin Scott (27th) and Vincent (29th).
Hall was the recipient of the King Freight Lines Future Winner Award and Exide Batteries rookie of the race award with a seventh-place finish.
The race was slowed by 14 caution periods, and took two hours 27 minutes to complete.
Prior to feature racing three opening classes took to the track. Dave Matthews (Nine Mile River, NS) won the MJS and Prime Lift East Coast Mini Stock Tour 50 lap feature. John Lyons (Oromocto, NB) won the Atlantic Modified 30 lap event, while Laurie Cormier (Riverview, NB) was first under the checkers in the 50 lap A.E. McKay Builders Sportsman race.
The Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour heads to Scotia Speedworld on Saturday, May 26, for the Cummins 150.
