POWNAL – Three unanswered third-period goals sent the Eastern Express to a 5-2 victory over the Mid-Isle Matrix at the Pownal Sports Centre on Thursday night.
The Matrix led the P.E.I. Major Bantam AAA Hockey League game 1-0 after the opening period, and the teams entered the final frame 2-2.
Jack Campbell had a goal and two assists to lead the second-place Express, who took a 9-7-4 (won-lost-tied) record into Friday night’s game against the Prince County Warriors (9-7-2) in O’Leary. Sam Worth (1-1), Seth MacLeod (1-1), Avery Brown (1-1) and Sam Parsons also scored for Eastern while Gabe Hartlen and Cole McKeigan assisted.
Crosby Andrews and Landon Hardy countered for the Matrix (3-19-0). Reese Wyand and Spencer Toole drew helpers.
Drew Chapman earned the goaltending win.
