The Wolverines prevailed 4-3 over the Three Oaks Axemen in one of two P.E.I. School Athletic Association (PEISAA) Senior Baseball League semifinals on Thursday.
The other semifinal had the undefeated Colonel Gray Colonels at 5-0 (won-lost) taking on the fourth-place Morell Marlins (2-3) at Church Field in Morell.
Medal games
The third-place Wolverines (3-2) will meet the winner of that game in Tuesday’s gold-medal contest at Memorial Field in Charlottetown at 8:15 p.m. The second-place Axemen (4-1) and the loser of the Gray-Morell match will meet for the bronze medal at 6 p.m.
Exciting finish
At Kowalski Park, the Wolverines took a 4-2 lead into the seventh inning. The Axemen rallied to score one run and had the tying run thrown out at home plate on the same play during a wild sequence of events.
Michael Callaghan earned the pitching win over Logan MacDougall.
Offensively, Bryce Wood and Chase Gaudette each had two singles to lead the Wolverines while Ethan Beaulieu connected for a pair of doubles to lead the Axemen, who received a single and walk from Dawson McCormack.
